Awkward

At the pharmacy picking up medicine for Carter, who now has what big brother had of course, and while the pharmacist was talking to me about the medication she was …… farting.  Not once, but multiple times and just kept talking AND it smelled. No “excuse me” or acknowledgement what so ever but kept doing it.  It was the most awkward situation I’ve been in in a while.  What would you have done?  Excused her even though she just kept talking?

My Garden

A lot of people have been posting beautful pictures of their gardens so I thought I’d share some of mine :)

Escape artist and not the usual suspect. Usually it’s the other one.

One of my favorites. Bleeding hearts. I have them in pink and white too.

What day is it?

Folks, I am sooooo far past exhausted I don’t even know if which side is up anymore.  The weather is rainy, cold and terrible. Cooper’s croupe has escalated to pneumonia and the poor thing has not slept for more than 45mins at any given time since Sunday. That’s means neither have I.  Two trips to the hospital were made yesterday in which my good lil guy did everything that was asked of him by everyone even though he’d probably give all his favorite things to just be left alone to try to sleep.  THANK GOODNESS for family!  I was able to leave Carter at home which made all the difference in the world. I couldn’t even imagine how different the trips to the hospital would have been had I have had to take him along. He’d be running all over the joint or screaming the place down if I tried to keep in the stroller for as long as we were there and I would have probably just been a ball of tears with the stress of it all.  But I wasn’t and for that I’m very thankful that we have the support we have.

Precious though is having my sick boy asking to sleep “right there” while pointing to my stomach. That’s where he slept last night.   Such a strong sense of mothering when you have your little one in your arms.

He’s on the mend and I hope, hope, hope tonight brings some sleep for him. As I type this though, he’s in another coughing fit.  I have never seen someone so delirously exhausted before as he was yesterday.  I’m having a soothing cup of chammomile and then off to bed myself.

The sun will come out soon and when it does, we’ll all be able to great it with a smile.  At least that’s what I’m telling myself right now.

Neglect

I’ve been so bad with keeping up here lately. Sorry folks. Bit of a block/busyness happening right now.

It’s a holiday Monday here and mine started way too early. 4:30am!  Cooper coughing and fever of 101 (38.5).  So, once everyone was up (took some coaxing for hubby as he had pulled an all nighter for work the previous night) off to the doctor’s we went. Of course it’s croupe. My poor son doesn’t get anything other than croupe everytime he gets a flippin cold.  Poor little guy must have the sorest muscles from coughing. He doesn’t complain they hurt but starts to ask for medicine around the time when the last dose is wearing off.  I feel for him because I know it hurts. I was a sufferer as a child too and remember that feeling all too well, yet there is nothing I can do.  No medicine will stop the cough. Just Vicks vapor rub on his chest and back, tylenol for the muscle pain and inahlers twice a day.

Carter is doing good except for being bored home all weekend.  Cooper didn’t go far from the couch this morning once we got back home and Carter kept bugging him in an attempt to get things going.  He’d press a button on the tv that screwed up Cooper’s movie or take Cooper’s prized toy at the moment just so Cooper would get off the couch and chase him.  I tried to keep him busy but he wanted to play with Cooper.  Poor Cooper just wanted to be left alone.  The challenges of 2 right?

What else………..?  Oh, and I started painting my kitchen.  Got most of it done tonight with the help of my mom. Should have it done tomorrow hopefully.  And hopefully I’ll be more interesting tomorrow. For now, I’m off to bed.

Good night.

Kids

My kids are growing up too fast.  On the cruise, Cooper was entralled by our friends older boys aged 6 and 10.  They had Nintendo DS’s and Cooper asked to have hubby’s so he could be just like them. He had used it once or twice before to scribble on and thought it was just the greatest when we gave it to him that he was doing something that these older boys were doing. Granted he was only coloring on his and they were playing games, he was none the wiser. He came home saying things like “look I won” and “where’s my DS?”. Now he has to play it on a daily basis and yesterday I found myself threatening to take it away if he didn’t get up the stairs to take his bath.  It was one of those moments where I stood back wondering – how did this happen so fast? My 3 year old is now addicted to a Nintendo DS and at the age of 3 I’ve had to put rules in place of when and for how long we use electronic devices.  This seems incredibly rediculous to me but at the same time to see how proud he is and how much of a big boy he feels because he can now turn it on and get to his coloring spot on his own (which is also kind of scary) makes me smile. Also, the logic of a 3 year old is just precious. Here’s some snippets of conversation from the last little while…

Yesterday at my mom’s house he asks if we can go to the park. My mom had just gotten home from work so she says “Hold on, let nanny just go change her pants.”

Cooper “Why Nanny, did you get pee on them? Did you have an accident?”

—————————————————————

Hubby’s birthday last week:

C “Mommy, today is daddy’s birthday, not yours.”

Me: “You’re right.”

C: ” Ya, your’s is still far away.”

Me: “Ya, it is still far away.”

C: “Ya.  Your birthday is in 2 weeks!”

———————————————————————

Yesterday when he’s just waking up from nap I went in and laid on his bed with him. I was rubbing his back and we were chatting about the dream he had.  Then he reaches behind to the tag on his pants and says “mommy, my tag is bugging me. You need to cut it with the scissors”

Me: “Okay, I’ll get them right now.”

C: “No, mommy. Do it when I wake up. I’m not awake yet… keep rubbing my back”.

How does this happen?  You blink and all of a sudden they’re not cuddly babies anymore that need you for everything. Carter has changed so much in the last few months that he deserves a whole post on his own. That will come at nap time :) .

Day 7

Martinique

Beautiful island.

The morning started really early. 5:30, early.  Ugh.  We went to the island and took a taxi to downtown. We were there so early nothing was even open yet. I kept asking, “why is everything closed. It is a week day” and hubby kept saying “because it’s not even 9am yet”.  We saw some really neat stuff but didn’t stay too long.  It was weird because it looked like the rest of the islands and had that carribean air to it but it’s very european.  France actaully.  Everyone spoke french and it was very expensive.

We came back to the boat and went swimming again.  Tonight  is another formal night and hubby and I will be going out after while my mom stays with the boys.  YEAH.

This was the oldest, most amazing church I’ve ever seen.

Day 6

Barbados.

We actually didn’t do anything in Barbados. It was mid morning by the time we got off the boat and it would have been too long a drive to a beach so we stayed and hung out on the boat.  We took the boys swimming in the pool and read the afternoon away while they napped.  I actually finished my book. That’s unheard of in a week.

After dinner we popped into a cocktail party with the captain where Carter had a bit of a tantrum and ended up sitting on the first officers shoe.  What threw us off is that he looked down at him and said “why hello there Carter” when we had never met him before.

Then back to the room, put the boys to bed and I headed off to the spa. They had a special on for facials so I went. I ended up getting a full facial for less than half price at the error of the girl doing it.  No complaints out of me though. It was so nice and relaxing.

Day 5

St.Lucia

Had an amazing day.  My mom and and took the kids to the pool while we went to shore.  We went on an excursion- 4×4 safari tour ending at a waterfall.  It was incredible.  We stopped at a farmer’s place on the way up the mountain and I swear to you, I had the best fruit I’ve ever eaten. What a difference in taste when it’s fresh right off the tree instead of being picked early and ripened ona  truck.  I couldn’t stop eating the coconut. Then we toured a sugar mill where we had rum punch and some snacks. The off to the waterfall. It was incredible.  then back to the boat for some lunch before heading back upto the room.

After dinner we took the boys to the pool deck to listen to the band for a bit. They had a steel drummer which Carter loved. Both boys danced and danced.  People kept coming up to us telling us how “good and well behaved” our boys were. Let me tell you, that is the greatest thing to hear :) .

Day 4

Today we were docked in St.Maarten. We got off the boat and took a water taxi to the beach. I bought a pink anklet from a local who was selling jewellery on the beach.  Carter wasn’t too sure about the ocean at first but once he saw everyone else having fun, he started laughing and splashing.  Cooper loved it! He didn’t like the feel of the sand on his feet but was soon runnign all over the place.

Dinner was the Chef’s show. The waitor’s came out with our napkins doing “ballet” and with our salads doing a swing dance.  It was good and a lot of fun. The music was very entertaining.

I’m writing this on a lounge chair on the balcony while the boys are sleeping inside the room.  The sound of the waves is soooo incredibly relaxing and to be in the middle of the ocean where there are no city lights to light up the sky- I can truly appreciate the darkness that night brings.

Day 2 & 3

We woke up with Cooper in our bed and breakfast being delivered.  It was during eating that Cooper’s stomach to turn. Within 30 minutes he was vomitting.  Within a few hours I wasn’t fat behind. Hubby thought he was going to go too but took some meds right away and led down and managed to escape it.  By the afternoon we were amazed that Carter wasn’t affected but by late afternoon (naptime of course) he was vomitting too.  The captain’s log read 7.5-10 foot waves and we were in the Atlantic so we were rocking.

We all got drugged and had good naps and felt ourselves again by dinner time which was good because it was the first formal night. The Captains dinner.  We all got dressed up and off we went. The food was incredible and we had a great time.  The boys went to bed easily after some good running around on the deck and I was in bed, reading early again. Bliss!

Day 3:

We were ate sea all day again but everyone had either gotten their sea legs or were drugged first thing upon waking. Either way, we were all good.  We hung out and went touring around the boat.  There was a lot to see! The kids napped great again (which actually they did the whole trip which was nice).  It was so nice to sit on our balcony, enjoying the sound of the waves while we relaxed reading in our lounge chairs.  I took video of just the water so I can always get that sound back whenever I need a mental break.  My mom and aunt came after I put the kids to bed and stayed in our room so we could enjoy a night out. It was nice to enjoy an evening to ourselves all fancied up.
